George L. Medeiros, 62, of Tiverton, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 31, 2018, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was home surrounded by his loving family and his four-legged buddy Toby. Born on October 10, 1955, in Fall River, George spent the majority of his life on Bayberry Farm in Little Compton where he raised his family with his wife of 40 years, Denise (St. Laurent) Medeiros.

George proudly served as a Little Compton firefighter and police officer in his younger years before serving as the Building Official in Portsmouth for over 30 years, and also Little Compton during his “retirement.” George’s fondest memories were spent down at the campsite on the farm with loved ones, and taking his morning rides with Toby. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and working on the farm with his beloved tractor, Johnny.

George was a proud member of the Seaconnet Sportsman club, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his twin granddaughters, Mackenzie and Madison.

He is the son of Yvette (Thibault) Medeiros of Texas, and the late Louis Medeiros.

In addition to his wife Denise, George is survived by his mother, Yvette (Thibault) Medeiros; and his children, Amanda Ferreira and her husband Bobby of New Bedford, and Brad Medeiros and his wife Kirsten (Gallagher) of North Kingstown, RI. He is also survived by his siblings; Irene Medeiros, Shirley Perry, Nancy Mercier, Michael Medeiros, Steven Medeiros and Bruce Medeiros, and his beautiful grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison Ferreira.

Calling hours will be Thursday, April 5, from 4-7 p.m. at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.

His funeral will be held on Friday, April 6, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine's of Siena Church, 74 Simmons Road, Little Compton.

Burial will be in Our Lady Of Fatima, Little Compton on Friday, April 6, at 11:30 a.m.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Dana-Farber for their care and support for the past 11 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115.
