Eileen Maloney Leary, formerly of Little Compton, RI, and Blairstown, NJ, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home on February 7, 2021 in Blairstown, NJ. She was predeceased by her kindergarten sweetheart and beloved husband, Donald E. Leary; and is survived by daughter Ann Leary Stock and husband Robert Stock of Blairstown, NJ, and their three children, Nathan Stock and wife Amy, Rebecca and husband Rishi, Elizabeth and husband, Jonathan; and daughter Margaret Leary Dooley and husband Stephen Dooley (predeceased) of Garden City, NY, and sons Daniel and wife Allison, Michael and wife Kara, Timothy and wife Nicole, and five great grandchildren. Her son, Timothy Cullen Leary, predeceased her in June, 1978. Eileen was a loving sister and aunt to the Maloney and Leary families.
Eileen was born on October 4, 1932 in North Attleboro, Mass, to Roland and Gertrude (Cullen) Maloney. She was a graduate of Stonehill College and enjoyed a 30-year career as an elementary school teacher. As a lifelong learner and educator, Eileen was passionate about books and literature. She loved to spend time reading and discussing books, and sharing books with her grandchildren. Eileen continued her own education into adulthood, even taking a botany course in order to hone her gardening skills. Eileen enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, walking and playing the piano with her family gathered together.
She was an active resident of Little Compton, serving as a volunteer at the Brownell Library and teacher in the religious education program at St. Catherine of Siena Parish. Eileen shared her love of the beach with all her family, with whom many wonderful memories at Brigg’s Beach were made. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Eileen was a beacon of indefatigable optimism and love for all those in her life.
Burial was private at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton. Memorial donations may be made to the Little Compton Wellness Center, P.O.
