Eduardo Bernardo Oliveira, 92, passed away on November 4, 2020 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice.  He was the husband of the late Maria Laura (Valcorba) Oliveira.

Born in Feteiras do Sul, Sao Miguel, Acores, he was the son of the late Anibal Bernardo and Filomena Oliveira. He is survived by his children: Maria Machado and her husband Mariano of Tiverton RI; Grace Oliveira and her husband Mario of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada; grandchildren: Mark Machado and his fiancé Abby of North Carolina; Jennifer Renchan and her husband Luke of Tiverton RI; and Erica Oliveira of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada as well as nine great-grandchildren: Alexia Machado, Taylor Machado, Christiano Machado, Mateus Machado, Avery Machado, Keegan Dutelle, Luke Renchan Jr., Cruz Renchan and Kingsley Renchan, that he loved so much.  He was the brother of Davide Oliveira of Canada, Jose Oliveira of Canada and Herculano Oliveira of Fall River.  He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews. Eduardo was the brother of the late Manuel Oliveira, Anibal Oliveira and Conceicao Oliveira.

Mr. Oliveira was educated in Portugal and worked for the Bensaude Company before he immigrated to the United States in 1969 with his family.  He was employed by Silver Creek Manor for 36 years before retiring. He had been living at Crestwood Nursing home for the last two years.

His funeral services were held Saturday, November 7 from the George Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Melinda Perpetua and Luke Renchan Jr. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Jennifer Renchon and the eulogy was given by Mark Machado. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Mark Machado, Luke Renchan, Keegan Dutelle, Mario Oliveira and Antonio Cardoso.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
