Anna Francis Vegkley Ryan was born in Portland, Maine, on March 19, 1923. She died peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, in Little Compton at the age of 93. Anna is survived by many wonderful friends and will be greatly missed.
Anna attended the Chandler Secretarial School in Boston where she met a Boston College student. As a result, she married John Anthony Ryan Jr. on August 29, 1953.
Before their marriage, Anna worked in radiology. Her husband John was a military veteran, and worked in government service as a special agent with the Office of Naval Intelligence and later with the Defense Investigative Service until retirement in 1993. John and Anna were happily married for over 50 years before he passed away in 2006.
Anna worked at the Madames of the Sacred Heart for many years. John and Anna traveled frequently to Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. They also made trips to Ireland to track down and visit relatives. She enjoyed collecting Americana, especially from the Colonial period.
A Mass of Christian Burial in St. Catherine of Siena Church, on The Commons in Little Compton was held on December 23, 2019 to celebrate Anna Francis Ryan's full and wonderful life.
