Portsmouth dominates Townies for fourth straight shutout
Patriots face Moses Brown on the road tonight
PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High varsity boys’ soccer team has certainly rebounded from last year’s season, in which the Patriots finished at 2-9-3 in Division I.
The Patriots, in fact, are on a roll. Their 2-0 victory over the visiting East Providence Townies on Tuesday, Oct. 1, was the team’s fourth straight shutout.
The win improved Portsmouth’s record to 6-1-2, and dropped East Providence to 1-8-1.
Before Tuesday’s game, the Patriots had beaten Cranston High West, Tolman, and North Smithfield by scores of 1-0, 3-0, and 3-0, respectively.
Portsmouth’s sole loss came at home on Sept. 14 versus top-rated Bishop Hendricken in a 3-0 shutout. The Patriots played to 1-1 ties against South Kingstown on Sept. 5, and Barrington on Sept. 17.
Portsmouth travels today, Oct. 4, to Moses Brown, which has won five straight games at home. After that the Patriots will host its next three games against North Kingstown (Tuesday, Oct. 8), Central (Friday, Oct. 11), and South Kingstown (Tuesday, Oct. 15). The team hits the road again on Saturday, Oct. 19, against Tolman.
