Victor Francis Barclay, 91, of Rumford, passed away on December 27, 2020. Born October 17, 1929 in WaKeeney, Kansas, to Elmer Glen Barclay and Blanche Fredrica (Pulver) Barclay, he was the third of four children and last remaining sibling. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Cole Barclay, in 2010.

Victor graduated high school in Syracuse, Kansas and joined the Navy during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged May 2, 1952.

While stationed in Newport, he met the love of his life Dorothy and was married the following April 5, 1952. They had three children, Dennis Clifford Barclay of Rumford, Victor Francis Barclay II of Rumford and Brenda Lee Barclay Olsen of Coeur dAlene, Idaho. He and Dorothy were blessed with one grandchild, Derek Scott Barclay Bernier (Ainsley Boan) and two great grandchildren, Bridger and Cerie.

Victor worked at Tower Iron Works where he soon established himself as a talented leader in steel building. After many years, he accepted a position at Electric Boat division of General Dynamics where he retired in 1995. He was a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailor’s Association (DESA).
We are grateful that he lived independently, in the family home with Victor and Dennis. He drove his car, picked up his Dunkin Donuts coffee and enjoyed sitting by the water. He loved his Patriots and the game of football. He was and will always be the original “Captain Sharpie.”

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated January 6 at Our Lady of the Rosary, Providence. He was interred at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter.
