Townies spring teams ready for playoffs next week

The East Providence tennis team swept Smithfield 4-0 during the Division-2 quarterfinals at home on Thursday afternoon.  The 11-4 Townies will face either Prout or Cranston West in the semifinals early next week. 

East Providence singles players Jeremiah Smith, his brother, Malachi Smith, Kiril Burkovskyi and Will Budnick had an easy time with their Smithfield oppoents, all winning their matches in straight sets.  Jeremiah Smith, playing first singles, gave up just a single game to Cameron Derderian, 6-0, 6-1.  as did his brother, Malachi Smith, at second singles, who trounced Smithfield's Ethan McGregor 6-1, 6-0. 

Burkovskyi , the Townies third singles player, trounced Alexander Howell, 6-0, 6-1 and Budnick, the fourth singles player, beat Parker Gaboriault, 6-1, 6-1. 

Doubles teams battling when match was won

When the match was won, the Townies first doubles team of Alex Green and Finnegan McShane found themselves down a set, 2-6, while rallying in the second set  5-1 to the Smithfield team of Oliver Robinson and Joshua Sasso. Townies second doubles team of Joseph Carillo Norero and Alexander Cassamass were up a set, 6-3, while battling in the second set, 3-4. 

Townies spring teams ready for playoffs next week. The eighth seeded East Providence softball team faces ninth seeded Prout this evening at the high school at 5 p.m.

The baseball team will host a Division-1 opening round playoff game at the high school on Tuesday, 5/26. 

The PCD, St. Rays, East Providence, boys lacrosse co-op will host an opening round playoff game at the EPHS on Thursday, 5/28.

The girls lacrosse team travels to Pilgrim in an opening round playoff game on Friday, 5/29. 

The boys Volleyball team will host Chariho in an opening round playoff game on Tuesday, 5/26.
