The League of Women Voters of Rhode Island and East Bay Media Group will host a candidates’ forum for General Assembly House District 65 (representing East Providence) and for the East Providence City Council Ward 1 seat on Monday, Aug. 31. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the debate begins at 6:00 p.m.
The candidates for House District 65 — Matthew Dawson, Cameron St. Germain, and Grant Wosencroft — will debate at 6:00 p.m. and the City Council Ward 1 candidates — Jonathan Jacobs, Frank Rego and Bethany White — will follow around 7:30 p.m. Richard Stanley, a candidate for Ward 1 City Council, did not reply to the invitation.
For the District 65 candidates, the Statewide Primary on Sept. 9 will decide the election, as each is running as a Democrat and face no Independent or Republican challengers. For those interested in learning more about each District 65 candidate before they cast a vote, The Post has interviewed each candidate for introductory articles outlining their backgrounds and legislative priorities. You can find each of those stories below:
We encourage the public to attend and submit written questions before the debate begins. No campaign signs, apparel, hats, buttons or other materials may be brought into the City Council chamber.
For those who are not able to attend, the forum will be live-streamed, and a link to the recording will be available on the League of Women Voters website at www.lwvri.org through the election on Sept. 9.
The public may also submit questions for the candidates to lwvrhodeisland@gmail.org before noon on Aug. 27.
