EAST PROVIDENCE —
Orlo Avenue Elementary School became the sixth of the district’s 11 buildings to be affected by a positive test for the novel coronavirus 2019, Superintendent Kathryn Crowley reported late Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 27.
The superintendent specifie the number of affirmative results, but said an entire class of Grade 5 students and four staff members have entered the quarantine protocols. The Rhode Island Department of Health, as occurred with the other positive results within the district, has taken on oversight of the situation and was expected to conduct contract tracing.
The pupils and personnel will shift into the distance learning program, taking and giving instruction virtually for the next few weeks.
Since school returned to in-class instruction on September 14, five other buildings have had positive results which necessitated quarantine. Of those, the administration was forced to close Silver Spring Elementary and put the entire school on distance learning because of number of contacts and associated lack of personnel to keep it open.
