Letter: Friends of Townie Athletics appreciates all who backed annual golf event

To the editor:
The fact that Townie Pride is ALIVE and WELL in East Providence was evident on Saturday, September 7th. The Friends of Townie Athletics Organization held its 11th annual golf tournament under bright blue skies at Metacomet Country Club. One hundred-twelve golfers and twelve volunteers joined together to make this our most successful tournament ever.
Co-Chairs Gregg Amore and Rob Traverse are to be commended for their guidance and leadership in organizing the tournament. Having worked alongside them for the past 8.5 months to ensure a well-organized event, I witnessed first-hand their hard work, dedication and wonderful organizational skills. No organization could ask for better co-chairs! They addressed every detail, handled all concerns and assured that all problems (large and small) were solved calmly and professionally.
Community volunteers and FTAO members are to be commended for supporting this tournament by donating their time to attend the tournament, by soliciting Corporate Sponsors, Tee Sponsors and golfers. This cooperative effort enabled FTAO the opportunity to raise thousands of dollars for the East Providence student-athletes.
We would like to recognize and thank the following twenty-seven Corporate Sponsors, who donated and sponsored this tournament, for their overwhelming generosity and support: Peter B. Vican, Homestead Baking Co.; Matthew A. Lopes, Jr., Pannone Lopes Devereaux & O’Gara, LLP; Harry & Nancy Hanoian; Michael J. Huber, QML, Inc.; Dr. Brian Hay, Performance Physical Therapy; Law Office of William C. Maaia; Robert Mega-Mega Transportation Group/MTG Disposal; Cynthia Quattrucci, Access Healthcare, Inc.; Community & Teachers’ Federal Credit Union; Barbara Cohen, Chartwells Dining Services; George Pesce, Lehigh Realty; Margie Rigo, Ocean State Transit Co.; Samuel Bradner, Peregrine Group LLC; Michael G. Baker, Pet Food Experts; Brad Scott, Scott Volkswagen, Inc.; Wendy Wood, Woods Heating Service; David & Karen Perry; Dr. Thomas Antonian & Dr. Lyn Behmke; Nicholas Shattuck, EPEA; Robin Sciarcon-Elm Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram; Paul Pimentel, Washington Trust; Steve & Ellen Ann Higginbotham; Ward Ring, MTTI; Patrick McKenna, Liberty Roofing Co. ; Carol Miccolis; Ken Miranda; Anthony Murgida, Gilbane Building Co.
Our seventy-seven Tee Sponsors also deserve a “round of applause” for their monetary donations as well. Without these generous sponsors, we could not have realized our goal.
The participation of one hundred twelve golfers is gratefully acknowledged for without them our event could not have taken place. WE thank each and every one for their continued support and truly appreciate all they do for the student-athletes at East Providence High School, Martin Middle School and Riverside Middle School. The total amount raised by this tournament will go towards the purchase of equipment and programs for all athletic teams which will serve to enhance all sports programs.
Lastly, a BIG “shout out” to Ray Cochran, COO (Metacomet), Laura Manning, Banquet Manager, CJ Talbert, Golf Pro and the entire staff at Metacomet who were responsible for ensuring a PERFECT day on their course. The greens were impeccable, the lunch and dinner meals delicious, the staff attentive, personable and professional and a pleasure to work with.
All in all…a GREAT day for the Townies: PROFITABLE AND PLEASURABLE!
Thanks to all who made this tournament rewarding.
Townie Pride Never Sleeps!
