To the editor:
Why do residents and visitors using Forbes St. to enter the East Shore Expressway and go westerly have to travel into Barrington miles away to turn around?
One, poor engineering, two, no empirical evidence that a reasonable and prudent speed and turn just above the entrance would be dangerous given all the wide space of island almost directly across from the old Leonardo farm.
There should be an east to west cut-off a few hundred yards up from the entrance.
There is plenty of room for the cut-off, and our newly elected representatives, especially those representing Riverside, should get on the ball to the state Transportation Committees and get it studied for substantial empirical evidence of accidents that justify the miles to travel to turn westerly.
Traffic Engineering should be based upon facts not emotions.
