Joseph L. Cunha, 68, East Providence

Joseph Leonardo Cunha, passed away December 2,2020 at age 68. Born in Graciosa Azores, son to late Jose & Erunidina (Melo) Cunha, he was the beloved husband to Michele (Lopes) Cunha for over 33 years.

Besides his wife he leaves three sons: Joshua J. Kassed of North Kingstown, Joseph R. Cunha of Pawtucket and Matthew J. Cunha also of Pawtucket; three grandchildren Trey, Jace and Adriana all of East Providence. Joe also leaves behind his beloved sister Maria J. Cunha of East Providence.

Joseph worked for The United States Postal Service for over 46 years before relocating Florida. He was a Letter Carrier for most of those years and Delivery Supervisor for a few. Joe was loved by many friends, family and Postal customers. He also was served in the United States Air Force.

Services will be private in Florida. A Memorial Service will be held in East Providence this coming spring.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
