Will be open on Wednesday and Saturdays during pandemic

EAST PROVIDENCE — With the increasing number of local families in need of food assistance due the coronavirus pandemic, Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen in Riverside is expanding its Food Pantry hours. The pantry will now be open every Wednesday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and every Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon.

All East Providence residents are welcome, regardless of income or family size. Please bring an ID or other proof of residency, such as a utility bill.

“We have already seen a significant increase in the number of people coming to the pantry,” said Ric Wild, executive director of Good Neighbors. “We will continue to be here for all those who need a little extra help to get through these difficult times and are now allowing people to come twice each month, instead of just once.”

Good Neighbors is using a “drive through” system to protect the health of those visiting the pantry. The drive-through takes place in the St. Brendan’s Church parking lot on Turner Avenue. There is no need to get out of your car, and volunteers will load the groceries into your car for you.

If you do not have a car, walk-ups are welcome.
Everyone visiting the Food Pantry will receive a bag of frozen meats, a bag of non-perishable groceries, and fresh produce as available, all free of charge. No appointment is necessary. Simply drive up during the allotted hours on Wednesdays or Saturdays.
