EAST PROVIDENCE — Nick Morrison’s goal in the 22nd minute of the opening period stood up the rest of the way as the East Providence High School boys’ soccer team began its weekly Division I schedule Wednesday night, Sept. 29, with a 1-0 victory over visiting Bishop Hendricken at the new EPHS stadium.

Keeper Nick Bento was a stalwart in net for the Townies all evening, making several key saves, including a couple in the closing minutes of the contest, en route to recording the shutout.

The Hawks came closest to leveling the match some five minutes into the second half, but their apparent tying tally was ruled offside.

The Townies improved to 2-1-4 in the league ranks with the win, good for 10 points in the standings. EPHS returns to action Saturday afternoon, Oct. 2, in Barrington. Kickoff against the host Eagles is 3 o’clock.
