EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School girls' soccer team concluded the second-to-last week of its 2023 Division II season by ending fall-long league losing streak.

In city Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 18, but on the road against nearby neighbor Bay View, the Townies recorded a 3-0 victory over the host Bengals in a meeting of sides at the bottom of the D-II table.

The EPHS defense and keeper Kloey Iacavone recorded the cleansheet, the latter credited with 11 saves.

Ava Soares, Amanda Lopes and Alyssa Karalekas netted the goals for East Providence, which improved to 1-9-1 in the D-II ranks.

The only other league result for the Townies came in a 1-all draw against Middletown in late September. EPHS improved to 1-11-2 overall. The Townies drew with next-door neighbor Providence Country Day in a non-league encounter last month as well.

Of ending the losing skid, EPHS head coach Melissa Resendes said, "The teamwork was on fire. The communication, passing and just the excitement of positivity was great. They have worked hard for this win."

Bay View remained winless in D-II outings at 0-9-0. The Bengals were shut out for the sixth time to date. Bay View had four matches left on its schedule at the time of the loss to East Providence.

The Townies scored goals in their last two losses while falling by a 4-1 count to Mount St. Charles and 5-1 to North Providence. Soares accounted for the tally in the three-goal setback to the Mounties. Thalia Lima scored for the locals against the Cougars.

EPHS was set to close out its 2023 campaign with two matches: a home game, Senior Night, on October 24 at Townie Stadium against North Smithfield at 6:30 and a road contest at Lincoln High Thursday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m.
