EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School boys’ soccer team returned to Division I league action last weekend, playing Barrington to a 2-2 draw on the road Saturday afternoon, Oct. 17.

The host Eagles scored both of their tallies in the first half. Colin Capelo potted an unassisted goal for the Townies in the opening 40 minutes before Andrew Jackson netted the tying score in the second half on an early penalty kick. Nick Morrison had the assist. EPHS keeper Andrew Mongeon was credited with eight saves. A Barrington netminding duo made 15 stops.

The Townies improved to 1-0-1 so far in the shortened league season.

Also last week, EPHS throttled visiting Davies, 14-0, in a non-league contest played October 14 at Pierce Stadium. Capelo, Fabio Fortes and Martim Moniz each had a hat-trick. Ryan DeCampos and Tommy Coutu each had a goal and an assist.
Max Collins, Henry Mendoza and Khan Zubair added the other goals. Mongeon needed to make one save prior to making way for backup Nick Bento, who made three stops.

Girls’ tennis
The EPHS girls’ tennis team played a pair of Division II matches over the last week, including a 5-2 loss to visiting St. Raphael. Raissa Luu, by the score of 6-2, 6-0 at first singles, and the team of Katelyn Furtado-Olivia Pannone, by the scores of 4-6, 10-3, 10-8 at second doubles, earned the Townies’ points against the Saints.

On Monday, Oct. 19, EPHS traveled to Woonsocket where the Townies fell by the same 5-2 count. Luu and the third doubles team of Isabella Harley-Elke Jones accounted for the EPHS points.

Boys’ cross country
The EPHS boys’ cross country team competed in two Metropolitan Division meets in recent weeks, the latest over 3.1-mile layout at Barrington High School on October 17. The Townies lost outings to the host Eagles and visiting St. Raphael by similar 15-50 scores. The Saints swept the meet, placing its five scorers in the top and had the individual winning time of 16:44. Grant Wosencroft paced the locals with a time of 23:13. Ryan Stover ran 23:16 and Simon Polombo 23:35.

At the 3.1-mile course at Tiverton High where the Townies lost to the host Tigers and Mt. Hope by the same 15-50 scores on Saturday, Oct. 10. Mt. Hope runners took the top eight spots, including first with the winning time of 19:03. Stover led the locals with a time of 23:19. Wosencroft was the second EPHS runner to finish in 23:45.

Girls’ cross country
The EPHS girls’ cross country team was also in Barrington on October 17 where the Townies fell to the hosts, 15-50, and St. Raphael, 16-43. A St. Raphael runner clocked the winning time of 19:16. Barrington swept the meet, its five scorers finishing in positions spots 2-6. Britney Carlson was first for the locals, running 17th overall in 25:39. Miranda Moniz was next in for the Townies, running 26:51.

Girls’ soccer
The EPHS girls’ soccer team won its second Division II contest in as many outings, recording a 3-2 road victory over Moses Brown Monday, Oct. 19. The game was postponed from Friday, Oct. 16, due to inclement weather.

Olivia Williams, Hailee Manteiga and Jordan Brogan scored the goals. Tessa LaRoche, McKayla Lopes and Kayla Hannon had the assists. KayLee Davenport made 10 saves in the EPHS net.
