East Providence High School starts 2024 cross country season
Anthony, Gagnon pace Townies during boys' and girls' races in Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH — The respective East Providence High School cross country teams opened up their 2024 Metropolitan Division regular seasons Monday, Sept. 9, in Portsmouth over the 3.1-mile course at The Glen Park where they lost to the host Patriots and LaSalle, but defeated Tiverton.
Will Anthony was the first Townie to finish in the boys' race, running 14th overall at 18:59. Sean Black was second for EP, placing 15th in 19:18. Gerry Gagnon was third for the locals and 17th overall in 20:01. Ben Sousa and Gus Belanger rounded out the EP scorers with times of 21:33 and 21:37, respectively.
The EPHS girls also ran in Portsmouth Monday with Sadie Gagnon leading the way for the Townies in 18th place at 24:34. Melanie Sotamayor was right behind in 19th with a time of 24:36. Kathryn Patalano was the third EP runner and 22nd overall in 25:15.
