Co-op girls ice hockey team loses to Northern RI Yeti
The East Bay Eagles Co-op girls ice hockey team played some of its best hockey of the season in its quarterfinal playoff series against Northern Rhode Island Yeti but lost 1-0 in the first game of the series and 2-0 in the second game.
Brie Rondeau, head coach of the Eagles, praised her team despite its early exit from the postseason.
“The girls gave an amazing effort and played some of the best hockey we have seen all season,” Rondeau wrote in a message to the Barrington Times.
After losing 1-0 in an away game on Friday night, Feb. 27, the Eagles bounced back with a hard-fought battle in the second game on Sunday afternoon, March 2, at their home rink, Portsmouth Abbey. The game was knotted 0-0 through the first two periods and remained scoreless late in the third. The Yeti took a 1-0 lead on a power play, and then added an empty-netter with time running out.
Rondeau said Sydney Olson, May Waluck an Ruby Turgeon played well for the Eagles’ forwards, while Addyson Whittet, Zoe Kelsey and Clara Bucher led the defensive effort. Rondeau also praised goalie Nadia Albritton.
The Yeti advanced to a semifinal series against top-seeded LaSalle.
