College Achievements: East Providence Dean's List students, winter graduates

EAST PROVIDENCE — The following academic achievements for college students from East Providence and nearby for the fall 2019 semester were submitted by their respective institutions of higher learning:

President’s List

Caroline Patricia Feeley of East Providence has been named to the President’s List at Clemson (S.C.) University for the fall 2019 semester. To be named to the President’s List, Feeley, whose major is Economics, had to achieve a 4.0 (all As) grade-point average.

Honors

Stella J. Ricci, of Providence/East Side, was awarded Faculty Honors for the fall 2019 semester at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Faculty Honors are awarded to students with a semester GPA of at least 3.667 on four graded courses, with no individual grade below B-, and no incomplete grades pending.

Dean’s List

Calli Vocke of East Providence has been named to the Elmira College (Elmira, N.Y.) Dean's List for the Fall 2019 Term. Full-time undergraduate students registered for at least 12 computable credit hours and earning a term grade point average of 3.6 or higher at the end of Term I or Term II are placed on the Dean's List at the College.

Allison Gower from Rumford qualified for the Fall 2019 Dean's List at Belmont University (Nashville, Tenn.). Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.

Danielle Cooper of East Providence was named to the fall 2019 Dean's List at Lasell University in Newton, Massachusetts. To be named to the Dean's List, students need to complete at least 12 credits as a full-time student and achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Sarah Curran from Rumford was named the University of Wisconsin-Madison, College of Letters and Science Dean's List for the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must complete a minimum of 12 graded degree credits in that semester. Each university school or college sets its own GPA requirements for students to be eligible to receive the distinction.

The following local students have been named to the Dean's List for the 2019 fall semester at the University of New England (Biddeford And Portland, Maine): East Providence — Devon Aparicio, Emily Machado; Seekonk — Kaitlyn Newton, Nathan Pickett, Rachel Pion. Dean's List students have attained a grade point average of 3.3 or better out of a possible 4.0 at the end of the semester.

Connor Agnew of East Providence has been named to the fall 2019 Dean's List at American International College (Springfield, Mass.). Dean's List students have achieved a 3.3 to 4.0 GPA.

Kaylee Brosco, Tyler Martins and John Kauffman of East Providence as well as Zion Hall and James Munro IV of Riverside were named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2019 semester at Dean College (Franklin, Mass.). To qualify for the Dean's List, students must earn a 3.30 GPA, have no incompletes, and have no grade lower than a “C” for the semester.

Beibhinn Anderson of Rumford and Dorian Woods of Riverside have been named to the dean's list for the fall 2019 semester at the University of Vermont. To be named to the dean's list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.

Joseph Rego of Rumford earned Dean’s List honors at Becker College (Worcester, Mass.) for the fall 2019 semester. To be eligible for Dean’s List recognition, traditional program students must be enrolled full-time (12 minimum credits). All Dean’s List students will have earned a term grade point average of 3.50 or higher with no grade below a B- and no incomplete (I) or withdrawal/failing (WF) grades.

Springfield College recognized the following local students for making the Dean's List during the 2019 fall semester, criteria for selection to the dean's list requires that the student must have a minimum semester grade point average of 3.500 for the semester, have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded coursework for the term, exclusive of “P” grades and not have any incompletes or missing grades in the designated term: Daniel Forsythe from Riverside, studying History; Jamielin Forsythe from Riverside, studying Health Science/Occupational Therapy; Erin St. Hilaire from Rumford, studying Health Science/Occupational Therapy; and Hailey Placido from East Providence, studying Health Science/Pre-physician Assistant.

Rebecca Landry of Rumford as well as Perry Joubert and Haleigh Silva of Seekonk were named to the Fitchburg (Mass.) State University Dean’s List for the fall 2019 semester. A student is placed on the Dean’s List for the semester if an average grade of 3.20 or better is attained, and the student is attending the university full time.

Michaela Botelho, a resident of East Providence and a member of the Class of 2022, has been named to the Dean's List at Providence College for the fall 2019 semester. This is the third consecutive semester that she has qualified for the list. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must achieve at least a 3.55 grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits.

Megan Wright of Riverside was named to the Dean’s List at Anderson (S.C.) University for the fall semester, 2019. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must maintain a 3.5 grade point average or higher for the semester.

The following local residents were among 1,678 students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) named to the university's Dean's List for academic excellence for the fall 2019 semester: Spencer Francis of East Providence is a member of the class of 2023 majoring in physics; Grace Holden of Riverside is a member of the class of 2023 majoring in electrical and computer engineering; Logan Rinaldi of Rumford is a member of the class of 2023 majoring in robotics engineering. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.

Bret Nascimento from Riverside achieved President's List status for the fall 2019 semester at Nichols College (Dudley, Mass.), which ended in December. The Dean's List and President's List give recognition to those students who achieve high grades during a single semester. In order to be included on the Dean's List, a student must have a minimum average of 3.5 for at least 12 undergraduate credit-hours and must have received no grades below B- during the semester.

Marilyn E. Lienghot of Riverside has been named to the Bristol Community College Dean’s List for the fall 2019 semester. The Dean’s List at BCC recognizes students who achieve a semester G.P.A. (grade point average) of 3.2 or better with a load of 12 credits or more and no grade below “C.”

Joss Duff of Rumford was named to the Dean's List at Lehigh University (Bethlehem, Penn.) for the fall 2019 semester. Dean's List status is awarded to students who earned a scholastic average of 3.6 or better while carrying at least 12 hours of regularly graded courses.

Keenan Dunleavy and Taylor Heck, both of Rumford, were named to the Dean's List at the University of New Hampshire for the fall 2019 semester. Dunleavy earned Highest Honors and majoring in English. Heck earned Honors and majoring in Biomedical Science: Medical and Veterinary Sciences. Students named to the Dean's List must be enrolled in a full-time course load (12 or more graded credits). Highest honors are awarded to students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.85 or better out of a possible 4.0. Students with a 3.65 to 3.84 average are awarded high honors and students whose grade point average is 3.5 through 3.64 are awarded honors.

Benjamin Senra of Riverside and Colleen O'Brien of Rumford were named to the University of Hartford Dean's List for fall 2019. Colleges of study at the University of Hartford have various requirements for inclusion on the Dean’s List, but most full-time students must take 12 or more credit hours and achieve a semester grade point average of at least 3.25 with no grade below C (no more than one C), no Incompletes, no No Passes, no No Grades, no No Report from Instructor issued.

Elizabeth Lynch-Gadaleta of Riverside was named to the College of Charleston (S.C.) fall 2019 Dean's List. Lynch-Gadaleta is a History and International Studies major. To quality for Dean's List (Distinguished), students must earn a GPA of 3.600 or higher and complete a minimum of 14 semester hours.

The following locals students were named to the dean's list for the Fall 2019 semester at Quinnipiac University (Hamden, Conn.): East Providence — Victoria Gouveia, Ashley Shankar, Victoria Stanley; Riverside — Hannah Cabral, Kelsey Coughlin, Cassandra Harvey, Grace Senra; Seekonk — Nicholas Dimuccio, Eric Kerr. To qualify for the dean's list, students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 with no grade lower than C. Full-time students must complete at least 14 credits in a semester, with at least 12 credits that have been graded on a letter grade basis to be eligible. Part-time students must complete at least six credits during a semester.

Matthew Buteau, Class of 2020 of Rumford who majors in New Media Studies, was named to the Eastern Connecticut State University fall 2019 Dean's List. Recognition for the Dean's List is given at the end of each semester to matriculated students in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.50 or higher.

John G. Shamgochian of East Providence was recently named to the Dean's List at Colby College in Waterville, Maine for the fall semester of the 2019-20 academic year. Shamgochian is one of 566 Colby students, or 27 percent of the qualified student body, to make Dean's List last semester.  Shamgochian earned a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher last fall to be included on Colby's Dean's List.

Katherine R. Lynch of Rumford was named to the fall 2019 Dean’s List at Saint Michael's College (Colchester, Vt.). Lynch is a junior history major and a graduate of Saint Raphael Academy. A student who has completed a minimum of 12 credits of classes with grades and achieves a grade point average of at least 3.5 in a particular semester earns Dean’s List honors.

Grace Abrams of Rumford and Ian Wright of Riverside were named to the Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville, Tenn.) fall 2019 Dean's List of the traditional and non-traditional undergraduate students. To be named to the Dean's List, undergraduates must attain a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale. Traditional undergraduates must be enrolled full-time, while non-traditional undergraduates must have completed 12 or more hours between July 1 and December 31, 2019.

Jared Remson of Riverside has been named to Purchase (N.Y.) College's Dean's List for the fall 2019 semester. Remson is studying Music: Performance (Jazz). To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must carry a semester GPA of 3.5 for Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs and 3.75 for Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Music Performance programs. They must take a minimum of 12 credits.

Benjamin Shamgochian of East Providence was named to the dean's list at Tufts University for the fall 2019 semester. Dean's list honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

Adam Duarte of Riverside has been named to the Curry College (Milton, Mass.) Dean's List for the fall 2019 semester. Duarte is a member of the Class of 2020 and is majoring in Criminal Justice. To earn a place on the list, full-time undergraduate students - those who carry 12 or more graded credits per semester - must earn a 3.3 grade-point-average (GPA) or higher.

The following local students have been named to the Deans' List at Bryant University for the fall 2019 semester: Elliot Charron, Class of 2021, from Riverside; Thor Silva, Class of 2020, from Rumford; James Picerelli, Class of 2020, from East Providence; Tyler Freitas, Class of 2021, from East Providence; Brianna Wilson, Class of 2019, from Riverside; Paulo Medeiros Frias, Class of 2020, from Rumford; Lizmar Torres, Class of 2022, from East Providence; Elimelec Aponte, Class of 2023, from East Providence. Traditional, full-time students at Bryant who have a GPA of 3.4 or better for at least 12 semester hours of work are named to the Dean's List.

Noah Fischer of East Providence has been named to the Dean's List at Boston University for the fall 2019 semester. Each school and college at Boston University has their own criterion for the Dean's List, but students generally must attain a 3.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), or be in the top 30 percent of their class, as well as a full course load as a full time student.

Graduation

Lindsay M. Carreiro of Riverside was one of 2,286 students awarded academic degrees during winter commencement at Boston University held in January 2020. Carreiro received a Master of Social Work in Social Work.
