Charles H. Patterson Jr., 84, formerly of Riverside

Charles H. Patterson Jr., 84, of Swansea, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Pauline L (Carpenter) Patterson. Born in Seekonk, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Elsie (McConnell) Patterson.
Charles was the owner and operator of Century Sheet Metal Inc. located in Riverside. He was a lifelong member of Riverside Sportsman Association since 1957. He was very proud of his military service, serving in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict. Charles loved boating and enjoyed spending his winters in Margate, Fla., and his summers on Prudence Island.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Roberts and her husband Jonny of Swansea, Barbara Vieira and her life partner Brian Travis of Rehoboth, Elaine Wojcikiewicz and her husband Michael of Cumberland, two sons, Charles H. Patterson III and his wife Joyce of Warwick and James R. Patterson and his wife Gail of Riverside, two brothers, Alton and Thomas Patterson, five grandchildren, Charles, Timothy, Chelsea, Ellie and Michael, five step grandchildren, and his longtime beloved companion Carolyn Pomfret and her family. He was the brother of the late Norma and Lloyd Patterson and Eleanor Hardy.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 1 pm in the Riverside Congregational Church, 15 Oak Ave. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, from 4-7 p.m. in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Ave.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2348 Post Road, Ste. 114, Warwick, RI, 02886 or the Rhode Island Blood Center, 405 Promenade Street, Providence, RI, 02908. The family would also like to thank the entire staff at the Lifespan Comprehensive Cancer Clinic at Rhode Island Hospital for all their support and care during this difficult time.
