PORTSMOUTH — A 57-year-old Prudence Island man was arrested last week and charged with breaking into a home and assaulting two people. 

According to police, officers arrested Alton H. Barrett, of 028 Edda Ave., at a Harriet Avenue home on Prudence Island around 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, after receiving a call for service to the address.

Barrett was transported to Newport Hospital for a medical evaluation as a result of the incident, police said. 

He was later transported to the Portsmouth Police headquarters where he was processed on charges of domestic breaking and entering into a dwelling or house without consent, as well as two counts of domestic felony assault.

Barrett was secured in a men’s holding cell to await transportation to 2nd District Court the following morning, police said.

The victims were a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old female, both of whom reside on Prudence Island, according to police.

Tuesday, Nov. 22

Julie Caron Silvia, 44, of 237 King Charles Drive, was charged with driving while intoxicated (DUI), first offense, and resisting arrest, following a motor vehicle accident on West Main. Road at West Main Pizza shortly before 5 p.m. While officers were attempting to place Silvia in custody, she repeatedly resisted arrest for about one minute, according to police. She was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test. Silvia was briefly held at the police station until her arraignment by a justice of the peace, and then released, police said.

Wednesday, Nov. 23

Krystal Tavares Brum, 31, of 182 Martin St., East Providence, was charged with DUI, first offense, after being pulled over on Bristol Ferry Road at Botelho Drive around 12:25 a.m. 

Thursday, Nov. 24

Haileigh L. Pacheco, 23, of 15 Fatima Drive, Bristol, was charged with DUI, first offense, after being pulled over on West Main Road at about 12:15 a.m. for speeding and several roadway violations.

Remi Elizabeth Aull, 40, of 412 Jepson Lane, was charged with DUI, first offense, after being stopped on East Main Road at Turnpike Avenue around 5:20 p.m. According to police, officers had received multiple 911 calls in regards to a vehicle traveling on East Main Road. They caught up to the vehicle and observed the driver operating at a high rate of speed, changing lanes without using a turn signal, traveling over the double yellow center lines, following vehicles too closely, and running a stop light, according to police. Aull was also cited for refusing a chemical test.

Sunday, Nov. 27

Jose A. Arroyo, 58, of 13 Fourth St., was charged with DUI, first offense, after his vehicle was stopped on Bristol Ferry Road at Sunny Acres around 4:10 p.m. Arroyo was also cited for refusing a chemical test, according to police. 

Monday, Nov. 28

Taylor Alexa Fontana, 25, of 12 Yarnell Ave., Middletown, was charged with operating a vehicle without a required ignition interlock system. Fontana’s vehicle was pulled over around 3:15 a.m. on West Main Road at Scott Drive. According to police, Fontana’s Rhode Island driver’s license included a restriction that she could not operate a motor vehicle unless it was equipped with an ignition interlock system, and her vehicle did not have one.
