William Wallace Jaycox, 91, of Bristol

William Wallace Jaycox, 91, of Bristol, R.I., passed away, Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol, R.I. He was a resident there for the past six years. He received loving care and made many friends.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, proudly serving during Korea.

He was the husband of the late Barbara (Newman) Jaycox, and was also preceded in death by both his daughter, Mary Jane, and son, Charles E. He is survived by grandsons, David C. Jaycox and William C. Jaycox.

Born in Mount Kisco, N.Y., he was the son of the late Howell and Dorothy (Coles) Jaycox, and lived much of his life in Bristol. Mr. Jaycox worked at banks in the Bristol-Warren area which were acquired by the Bank of America, from which he retired.

He was an esteemed member of the Freemasons of Rhode Island for 56 years, and served with distinction. He was Master, Treasurer, and, for 31 years, Secretary of St. Alban’s Masonic Lodge No.6 of Bristol.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
