Warren resident Christopher Stone's endeavor to earn his Eagle Scout rank through Scouting America, until just last month known as Boys Scouts of America, concludes over the next week with his supply drive to support newborns and their families ending on March 31.
Stone, a junior at the East Providence High School Career and Tech Center in Electrical curriculum, and a member of Troop 6 in Warren and Bristol, is assisting in the long-standing effort, "St. Gabriel's Call," a ministry operated in Rhode Island by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence.
As explained in its literature, St. Gabriel’s Call is "confidential intervention program." It attempts to aid mothers-to-be and beyond their pregnancy "in a local and personal way by providing material needs, friendship and guidance through a difficult time."
Of why Stone said, "I want to be kind and help to other people,"
Stone, who has been a scout for 11 years, community project that benefits an non-profit or town organizations. Approximately 200 items have already been donated.
Eagle Scout project includes a 150 page packet and is focused on leadership and how to manage working with other people
Stone's supply drive includes most of what someone would expect: clothing, diapers, feeding, bedding, furniture and other accessories as well as toys and gifts.
Locally, Stone has teamed up directly with his home parish St. Mary of the Bay. Other nearby parishes also participating are St. Alexander’s Church along with Bristol parishes St. Mary’s Church, St. Elizabeth’s Church, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Luke’s Church in Barrington.

Those wishing to donate can make purchases and either have the items picked up by Stone and the other scouts in Troop 6 or can be dropped off by themselves at one of aforementioned churches. Drop-off new donated items for St. Gabriel’s Call marked as “Christopher Stone Eagle Scout Project” and can be left at the rear of any of the above churches after any mass.
In addition, those items purchased in the area can be dropped off at Hometown Tavern on Metacom Avenue or can also be shipped directly to Stone at Christopher Stone, Eagle Scout Project, 26 Overhill Road, Warren, RI, 02885.
