Veleta V. Almeida, 98, of Bristol

Mrs. Veleta V. (Crowley) Almeida, age 98, of Brookwood Road, Bristol, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at the Warren Skilled Nursing Center, Warren, surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late Joseph C. “Happy” Almeida, her husband of 60 years, who preceded her in death in 2000. 

Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Delwyn P. and Louise (Lafay) Crowley. Veleta worked as an assembler for the former R&J Manufacturing Company, formerly in Warren, retiring in 1983. She previously worked for Blount Seafood, Well Made Dress Shop and the U.S. Rubber Company. She was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Bristol. 

She is survived by three children, Russell D. Almeida (Claire) and Sandra L. Greer (John), of Bristol and Veleta V. Curran (Bob) of Warren; four grandchildren, Keith Almeida, Wendy Greer-Francis, Randy Greer and Melissa Curran-Heilborn; and eight great-grandchildren, Christopher Almeida, Meghan and Riley Francis, Sydney, Khloe and Aidan Greer, Emma and Ethan Heilborn. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Sterlin and Alton Crowley, and two sisters, Dorothy Andrade and Rosemond Scollaro.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol at 9 a.m., with a funeral service at 11 a.m. in St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 399 Hope St., Bristol  Burial will be private. Visitation will be Thursday morning only from 9 to 10 a.m.
