Update: Man told KMS student to get in his car

Posted

Warren and Bristol police are looking for a man who tried to entice a Kickemuit Middle School student into his car following a soccer game Monday evening.

The student told police Wednesday that she was waiting for her parents to pick her up near the electronic sign in front of the school at approximately 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, when the man pulled over in a car she described as a slightly rusty, older model white or silver sedan. Deputy Warren Police Chief Roy Borges said when the man, described as being in his 40s or 50s with round spectacles, told her to "get in the car," she ran away. Her parents picked her up a short time later near the fields behind the school.

The student told administrators about the incident Wednesday, and school staff shared the information with the school resource officer. Bristol police were also advised of the incident.

In a memo sent to parents Wednesday that noted the date of Monday's incident as Tuesday, school officials asked that:

1. Students are picked up or walk home promptly at dismissal.

2. Students are picked up promptly at the end of games and other school events.

3. Students wait for rides on the south side of the building on the patio or foyer of the school's main entrance.

4. If students are waiting after school, a friend should wait with them.
