Police responded to 89 Wood St. at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, following a call from the address regarding a domestic disturbance. They were confronted by a male who would later be identified as Eric Squires, 43, a resident of the home. Squires was reportedly standing in the hallway, covered in blood, and not responsive to police instructions.
Once inside the apartment, officers located two victims, both adult females, each suffering from multiple stab wounds. They were transported to Rhode Island Hospital where they were treated and reported to be in stable condition. According to a report by Channel 12 WPRI, the victims are Squires’ mother and aunt.
Alleged assailant known to police
Squires is a familiar face for local law enforcement. According to Rhode Island criminal case records, he has been arrested numerous times, mostly by Bristol and Warren police, for a range of offenses, including multiple domestic assaults, domestic vandalism, DUI, multiple simple assaults, disorderly conduct, vandalism, and multiple violations of no-contact orders.
He was last arrested in November by Bristol Police and charged with domestic assault (third+ offense) and domestic vandalism. He was arraigned on those charges on Nov. 15 of last year and released on personal recognizance with a domestic no-contact order put in place.
Squires was taken into custody at the scene; on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 11, he was arraigned in 2nd District Court for two counts of Felony Domestic Assault on persons over the age of 60 resulting in serious bodily injury, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon in a dwelling house, one count of weapons other than firearms prohibited, one count of possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, one count of Domestic Disorderly Conduct, and one count of violation of a no contact order 2nd offense.
Squires has been remanded to the ACI pending his next court appearance.
Chief Kevin Lynch credits Bristol Fire Department and Bristol Police Department first responders for their quick decisive action and the life saving measures engaged in as part of their response to this crime.
This matter remains under further investigation.
