PORTSMOUTH — A 19-year-old Newport man was charged with larceny on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Portsmouth Police Department’s Detective Division in regard to a fraud complaint, and a warrant was issued for the arrest of Michael Darian Griffin, of 193 Park Holm, police said.
At about 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, members of the Rhode Island State Police/U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Griffin at his home.
He was transported to the Portsmouth Police station and charged with larceny of under $10,000, according to police. Griffin was placed in a cell to await his arraignment.

Thursday, Aug. 31
Nathanael Pires, 35, of 108 Angell St., Apt. 2, Fall River, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, with damage resulting to an attended vehicle. At about 3:20 p.m., officers responded to a report of an accident in which an operator fled the scene, police said. Officers conducted a followup investigation with Pires at the police station, where it was determined he had knowingly been involved in a motor vehicle accident and failed to stop, police said. Pires was placed in a cell to await transportation to 2nd District Court.
Michael J. Ellis, 47, of 106 Norseman Drive, was arrested on a 2nd District Court bench warrant at his home around 8 p.m. Officers had previous knowledge of the warrant, which was for failure to appear in court, according to police. Ellis was held at the police station pending his arraignment.
Sunday, Sept. 3
Justin Andrew McKenna, 45, of 11 Second School St., Bristol, was charged with driving under the influence, first offense, following a traffic stop on Route 24 North at West Main Road at about 1:25 a.m. McKenna was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, police said.
