Patricia Ann Doherty, age 85, of Bristol

Mrs. Patricia Ann (Fay) Doherty, age 85, of Bristol, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and her three beloved dogs. She was the wife of the late James V. Doherty, her husband of 56 years, who preceded her in death in October of 2011.   

Born in Fall River, Mass., and a lifelong resident of Bristol, she was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Agnes E. (Murphy) Fay. Patricia was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1952. She was an accomplished classical pianist and equestrian. She owned, trained, rode and professionally showed her purebred Arabian horse, Foxfire Proxy.

She was a member of the New England Historic Genealogy Society, and genealogy was a dedicated pastime over the last several decades. Patricia loved going dancing with her late husband, James. She loved working in her flower gardens that surrounded her home and spending time with her dogs, Scarlett, Daniel and Riley.  She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Bristol. 

She is survived by two children, Sharon Ann Doherty of Barrington and James P. Doherty of Bristol, and a granddaughter, Kathleen A. Villari of Barrington.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles F. McHugh, Robert D. McHugh and Charles H. Fay. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are private.

Social distancing guidelines, use of face masks and seating capacity limits will be in place.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stray Animal Fund at Warren Animal Hospital, 581 Metacom Ave., Warren, RI  02885.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
