Newport Ballet visits Guiteras, Rockwell schools

Posted

Guiteras and Rockwell Schools hosted professional dancers from the Newport Contemporary Ballet for a creative movement mini-residency for second and third graders from Jan. 17 through Jan. 27.

The dancers worked with students in second and third grades at Guiteras from Jan. 17-20 and Rockwell School from Jan. 23-27. Each class met with dancers three times over the course of a week to explore basic concepts of dance, such as shape, level and tempo. Students worked together to combine these concepts in creative movement exercises. This project, which allowed collaboration between the dancers, students, music teacher and physical education teachers, was fully sponsored by a grant from the Bristol Warren Educational Foundation.
