Mt. Hope gymnasts competed and qualified for the New England meet at the Rhode Island Interscholastic League gymnastics state individual and team championships, held at Rhode Island College on Saturday.

Mt. Hope sophomore Nora Prendergast placed 10th in the all-around competition with a score of 34.2 and qualified for the New England meet. Prendergast also qualified on bars, placing fifth with a score of 8.6, and floor, placing fifth with a score of 8.65. She also scored an 8.35 on beam.

Sophomore Reese Pavao placed 23rd in the all-around with a score of 32.15. She scored an 8.6 on floor, a 7.65 on bars, an 8.1 on vault and a 7.8 on beam.

“Reese added a new skill on floor,” said Head Coach Nicole Daniello. “It was a one-and-a-half twisting layout, and she landed it perfectly.”

“Reece had a tough day on bars and beam. Her hand slipped on bars, which never happens, and ended up coming off the bar. She continues to impress me with her perseverance and fighting drive. Reece never gave up. I can’t wait to see what she does next year,” said coach Daniello.

Senior Molly Thibaudeau scored an 8.3 on floor, an 8.55 on vault and an 8.4 on beam.

“Molly added a more difficult skill to her floor routine, a full, and nailed it,” said coach Daniello. “Senior Grace Silva qualified for states for the first time in her high school career on floor and scored a 7.9.”

“Freshman Sabrina Medeiros performed very well on vault and floor,” said coach Daniello. Medeiros scored an 8.4 on floor and an 8.45 on vault.

“Junior Marissa Grenier added a new tumbling pass on floor,” coach Daniello said. “She added a front through to a full and performed it very well, scoring an 8.5.

Sophomore Maria Tucciarone scored an 8.0 on beam, an 8.375 on vault and a 5.55 on bars, and sophomore Brooke Ramella qualified for states on floor and vault, but injured her ankle last week and could not compete, said coach Daniello.
