It was all sunshine and smiles yesterday as Bristol celebrated its 234th Fourth of July parade and festivities. Spectators and participants alike were drawn into the spirit of what is known to be the oldest continuously running Independence Day celebration in the country.
In what is becoming an increasingly interactive celebration with the crowd, this year’s parade proved to be no different. Nicki Tyska would pause to take photos with a fan; naval officers would stop to offer children a high-five. It was as if everybody played a vital role in the day’s events.
“I love the spirit,” said New Bedford resident Amanda Raffa. “It’s so fun.”
