Mary Josephine Wilson, 98, of Bristol

The beautiful Mary Josephine (DiMauro) Wilson, age 98, of Bristol, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021. She was predeceased by her adoring husband John H. Wilson, her husband of 74 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was the daughter of Domenic and Mary (Voccio) DiMauro. 

Mary is survived by her loving son, John H. Wilson, Jr. and his wife Nancy, and her devoted niece, Frances Principe, who was more like a daughter to her. She was very much a part of the lives of her four grandchildren: Amy Stefanowski (Bob), Cynthia Kosh (Dean), Jennifer Wilson and Joshua Wilson (Emily); and her nine great-grandchildren: Lauren, Rachel and Megan Stefanowski, Molly Noah and John Kosh, and Abigail, John Henry “Jack” and Josie Wilson.   Mary will be missed by her wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Rogers High School, Newport, Class of 1942, for more than 35 years Mary worked at The Lobster Pot in Bristol. She previously worked at the former Harriet Bradford Hotel, the former Hope Creamery in Warren, Carr-Fulflex Corp. and the former Bristol Manufacturing Company.

A communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mary loved cooking, spending time with family and friends especially for “Sunday Dinner.” She loved keeping up with fashion and enjoyed shopping, had a love for Tom Brady, and enjoyed staying well informed on current events and was knowledgeable on many topics. She was intelligent and articulate.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Larry J. DiMauro, Isabella Principe and Domenic DiMauro.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at 9 a.m., with a Mass Of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visitation is Thursday morning at 9 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dawn Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Attn: Patients Activities Fund, 1 Dawn Hill, Bristol, RI  02809.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
