Mrs. Mary Adelaide (Sousa Calouro) Mello, age 91 of High Street, Bristol, died peacefully Sunday, June 13, 2021, surrounded by her loving family, in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late Joseph Arruda Mello, her husband of 68 years, who preceded her in death in May 2018.

Born and raised in Fenais de Ajuda, Sao Miquel, Acores, a daughter of the late Antonio Sousa Calouro and Maria do Anjes Leite, Mary had been a resident of Bristol for more than 58 years.

A gifted seamstress, she worked at many of the local textile mills for many years, retiring in 1991, and following her retirement she continued sewing for many family members and friends. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church, Bristol and a member of the Don Luiz Filipe Society of Bristol.

Mary loved and had a great interest in journalism. She love watching cable newscasts and loved political discussion with family and friends, along with reporting to them the latest political news. Her greatest love was spending time with her children and her beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Mary Mello Brown (Warren) of Bristol, Fatima Mello of East Providence, Joseph A. Mello (Ann) and Margaret “Peggy” Murgo (Kenneth), both of Bristol; six grandchildren, Lindsey Brown McLravy (Charles), Kenneth T. Murgo (Chelsea), Kyle J. Mello, Tyler J. Murgo, Danielle A. Mello and Tianna L. Murgo; and a great-grandson, Kenneth Steven Murgo. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Maria Gabriela Sousa Mello, and a sister, Maria Jose Macedo.
