Maria Ribeiro, 98, of Bristol

Maria (Rodrigues) Ribeiro, 98, of Silver Creek Manor passed away on March 21, 2020. She was the wife of the late Gabriel Silva Ribeiro.

Born in Capelo, Faial, Acores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Rodrigues Pereira and Mariana Bernarda (DaSilva) Pereira. She was the mother of Joseph Ribeiro of Providence and the late Manuel Ribeiro and grandmother of Natasha Thompson. She was the sister of Almorinda Silviera of Fall River and the late Manuel, Antonio, Jose, Guiherme, Jaime, Leonardo, Isilda and Laudelina.

Mrs. Ribeiro was educated in Portugal and employed as a sewing machine operator for Robin Rug for 20 years before retiring.

Private funeral services were held on March 24 from the George Lima Funeral Home. www.limafh.com

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
