Maria Ines (Garcia) Verissimo, 84, of Leahy Drive, Bristol, passed away on Nov. 11, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Manor surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Humberto Sousa Verissimo.
Born in Relva, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Maria Ermelinda (Oliveira) Garcia. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jo Leite and her husband Raul of Bristol, and Emily Challoner and her husband Keith of Middletown, and her grandchildren, Kacey Challoner and Keith Challoner II. She is also survived by her brother, Francisco Garcia and his wife Zelia of Bristol, and was the sister of the late Silverio Garcia. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
Mrs. Verissimo was educated in Portugal and employed by Sagamore Mills and I. Shalom before retiring. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church and a member of the Holy Ghost Committee.
Her funeral was held Nov. 16 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Rosemary Sousa and Kacey Challoner. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Sandra Cummings.
Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Kacey Challoner, Keith Challoner II, Timothy Doyle, Paul Sousa, Joe Garcia, and Sandra Cummings.
