Maria Belmira Pacheco, 82, of Bristol

Maria Belmira (Ramos) Pacheco, 82, of Monroe Avenue, Bristol, passed away on Sept. 6, 2021, at home. She was the wife of the late Humberto Pacheco.   

Born in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Jose Couto Ramos and Maria Costa Medeiros. She is survived by her children: Joseph Pacheco of Warren; Francis Pacheco and his wife Darcy of California; James Pacheco of Florida; Ann Marie Withers and her husband Peter of Warren; Lisa Kaiser and her husband Shawn of Swansea, Mass.; and grandchildren, Samuel Pacheco, Christina Pacheco, Adam Pacheco, Madison Withers, Sarah Withers and Sydney Withers. She was the mother of the late David Pacheco.

She is also survived by her brothers, Alfred Ramos and his wife Pauline; Lionel Ramos and his wife Gilda; and sister-in-law, Mary Ramos, wife of her late brother, Joseph Ramos.

Mrs. Pacheco was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School and employed by Transcom Electronics as well as the Bristol School Department before retiring.

She was a loving mother who was devoted to her family. Kind, caring and generous, she always put others first. She loved to cook, with her chourico and peppers and sweet bread being family favorites. Maria enjoyed gardening and talking with her family and friends to check in. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Church who was devoted to her faith and praying the rosary.

Her funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High S., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., with the reciting of the rosary at 7:30 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
