Maria A. (DaSilva) Florenzano, 92, of Bristol, passed away peacefully on Aug. 15, 2021, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice, surrounded by her family.

Born in Faial, Acores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Maria and Antonio DaSilva.  She emigrated to America in 1959, settling in Newport and then relocating to Bristol.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Anthony Florenzano; her daughter, Mary (Rocha) Correia, and her husband Louis; her sister, Maria Faria; and her nieces, Julie Wilcox (Bob) and Sandy Faria (Michael), as well as many great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her first husband, Lionel Rocha; her sister, Natalia Vadnais; and her brother-in-law, Manuel C. Faria.

Maria was a long time communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Bristol, where she was an Eucharistic Minister; past President of the Legion of Mary; and faithful member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She also volunteered at the Helping Hands Soup Kitchen and the local Elks Club for 8 years.

Maria was an animal lover who had numerous cats over the years. Many birds and a seagull regularly visited outside her window. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and a daily glass of red wine. She loved cooking, especially Holy Ghost soup for family gatherings. She spent vacation time in Florida, South Carolina and New Jersey with her daughter and son-in-law.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, Aug. 19, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
