Posted

On Aug. 4, 2019, Margaret V. (Vera) Dober, 90, of Pompano Beach, Fla., and formerly of Bristol, Rhode Island, went home to be with the Lord. She was the wife of the late Eric W. Dober. Peggy, as she was called, was born in Providence, R.I., the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Rego) Vera.

She graduated from Colt Memorial High School, and Katherine Gibbs. Peggy worked as a secretary to the president of Smith’s Manufacturing in Bristol for many years, and later as the administrative assistant to the superintendent of the Bristol School Department, from where she retired.

For over 20 years, Peggy wintered in Florida, and she lived there full-time for the last five years. In Florida, she attended Calvary Chapel.

Peggy was a member of the Bristol Junior Women’s Club, and also a member of the Dudek’s Bowling League. She liked playing cards and Bingo, and was an avid reader. She liked all sports, but her favorite was football. She liked watching the Boston Red Sox, and was a true New England Patriots enthusiast, never missing a broadcast game.

Peggy’s happiest times were spent with her family and friends. She is the mother of Margaret D. Pereira of Portsmouth, R.I., Diane Paiva (Jesse) of Bristol, R.I., Lynn Mosher of Pompano Beach, Fla., Eric W. Dober, Jr. of Palm City, Fla., and the late William J. Dober. Peggy is the sister of Joseph R. Vera (Elizabeth), of Bristol, R.I., and the late Joseph Vera, Jr.

She was Grandma Dober to nine grandchildren, Christopher Nappi, Koren Nappi, Steven Pereira, Kate Paiva, Eric Paiva, Chelsea Vieira (Zachary), Eric Dober III, Carlee Dober, and Jake Dober; six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves many relatives and close friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, R.I. Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, with a Celebration of her Life at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at www.stjude.org.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
