Manuel do Couto, 89, of Fatima Drive, passed away on Nov. 20, 2019, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of the late Herminia (Cabral) do Couto and Rosa (Melo) do Couto.

Manuel do Couto, 89, of Bristol

Manuel do Couto, 89, of Fatima Drive, passed away on Nov. 20, 2019, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of the late Herminia (Cabral) do Couto and Rosa (Melo) do Couto.   

Born in Mosteiros, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Joao and Maria do Jose (daMatos) do Couto. He is survived by his children, Louis do Couto and his wife Carolina, John Couto and his wife Liberta, Carlos Do Couto and his wife Elizabeth; grandchildren, Michael do Couto, Kevin do Couto, Jefferey Couto, Jennifer Holt, Jeremy Couto, Christopher Do Couto, and Allison Mellor; and great-grandchildren, Vanessa do Couto, Nicholas do Couto, Matthew do Couto, Breanna Couto, Austin Couto, Liam Holt, Oliver Holt and Owen do Couto.  He was the brother of Maria Jose Medeiros, Joao Couto, Jose Couto and Carlos Couto.

Mr. do Couto was educated in Portugal and employed as a porter for Camille’s Roman Garden for 25 years before retiring.

His funeral services were held Nov. 23 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Christopher Do Couto and Melissa Couto.

The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Allison Mellor, and the offertory gifts were presented by Vanessa Do Couto, Breanna Couto and Austin Couto. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Jeffrey Couto, Jeremy Couto, Christopher Do Couto, Paul Couto, Michael Do Couto and Kevin Do Couto.
