Linda S. Bruno, 69, of Bristol, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021. She was surrounded by her three loving daughters and granddaughter, who provided round the clock tender care as she courageously fought an eight-month battle with ALS.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Paul and Lizzie Nielsen and moved to Bristol while she was in high school. Linda was an elementary teacher in the Bristol Warren Regional School district, having taught at Guiteras School until her retirement.

Teaching was truly Linda’s calling. She impacted generations of students with her kind and caring nature. She would individualize each and every lesson in order for her students to succeed. She was a teacher, a mentor and a university clinical educator who will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Laurie Ellen Bruno and Alaina Bruno of Bristol and Briana Bruno Garrahy (E. Patrick Garrahy III) of East Greenwich. She was the sister of Kenneth Nielsen (Heidi) of Gilford, N.H. and Ellen Canna-Bettencourt (Richard) of Bristol, N.Y. and sister-in-law to Joseph Bruno (Jane) of Bristol, RI. Linda leaves her grandchildren, Kennedy Evangelista and E. Patrick Garrahy IV, “Paddy.” She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence, RI at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, RI. In lieu of flowers, your kind donation in Linda’s memory may be made to Compassionate Care ALS, P.O. Box 1052 West Falmouth, MA 02574 or by visiting ccals.org/donate.
