Letter: Threatening our VFW Post is an insult to veterans

Posted

I would like to answer a letter placed in the Bristol Phoenix on July 9 by Lisa Peterson (Who are these ‘Citizens’? Bristol voters deserve answers).

We rent the VFW building to a wide variety of organizations, including political groups.

The VFW also provides the hall for selected civic organizations, without charge, for the benefit of our community. The property is available to rent by anyone.

We are not a rich Post, and rents help us greatly.

The Bristol County Concerned Citizens have rented our facility on three occasions.

To threaten the Post with an investigation by the Attorney General and Board of Elections is an insult to all veterans.

While I am a member of the BCCC myself, it is its own entity and has no affiliation to the Bristol VFW Post 237, except to rent said premises.

Armand M. Pereira
Command Sgt. Major (ret.)
Bristol

Mr. Pereira is quartermaster of Bristol VFW Post 237.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
