Letter: Thankfully, our Presidential leadership gives us hope

Posted

Why do so many intelligent, successful people support our president? In the face of never-ending, wacky, and unsubstantiated claims as illustrated in Thomas Browns’s letter (“These days, the Presidential failings are magnified”) in the Phoenix, President Trump has persevered, keeping his campaign promises. Like them or not.

Until COVID-19 hit us, this country was in the best shape that it has been in in a long time, thanks to our president.

Criticized and mocked for the China travel ban, Trump was called a racist and xenophobe; now those same people cry he didn’t do it soon enough. Which is it? Saying “both” is a symptom of what is humorously called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Hatred for the man has taken over common sense and civility, along with apparent loss of memory. No one can be all right or all wrong.

As soon as Trump called the spreading disease the Wuhan Virus or Chinese Coronavirus, he was called a racist, again. I submit the following examples of diseases named after their locations of origin: West Nile Virus (Uganda), Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lyme disease (Conn.), MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome), and German Measles, to name a few.

In January the news media called it “a new Chinese coronavirus” or as CNN’s Jim Acosta tweeted, “Authorities in Beijing have cancelled all large-scale Chinese New Year celebrations in an effort to contain the growing speed of Wuhan Coronavirus.” This was ok until Trump said it, another example of the rampant memory loss in the media and on the left. Is anybody here racist? I think not.

I applaud and support President Trump. Of course I think he has some faults, don’t we all, but I believe under his leadership he and his team are working hard to guide us through these dangerous and unprecedented times. There will be shortages, delivery mishaps and confusion, none of it avoidable by anyone.

Our president is a builder, a results oriented business man. This is where his strengths lie. His goal is getting us back to our strong economy as soon as possible and getting on with his goals to rebuild our infrastructure. I can’t think of a stronger leader to have at this time. How do you think Joe Biden would be doing right now? Honestly.

As lyrics to an old 1940s song goes, could we all try to “accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative and latch on to the affirmative …”. A little love, compassion and kindness goes a long way.
