To the editor:
The East Bay Food Pantry and Thrift Shop (EBFP) would like to thank the many Thrift Shop donors who continue to provide high-quality items for our store. Sales of these donated goods provide critical funding to support our food programs. EBFP provides free food assistance to anyone in need in the East Bay Community, including twice monthly groceries, weekly access to fresh fruits and vegetables, special programs for kids and seniors, and food delivery to disabled and homebound residents.
This year, prices have risen considerably, while many pandemic assistance programs have ended. This has caused a dramatic increase in both the demand for food assistance and the cost of keeping our programs operating. Over the summer, we have seen upwards of 30% more visits to our food programs compared to last year, and our food costs have risen more than 45%.
We depend on community support to help us meet these needs, and our Thrift Shop provides an important part of this support. We recognize that when you are cleaning out your closets, you have choices about what to do with your goods, and there are many worthy organizations doing good work. We are grateful to those community members who choose to contribute to EBFP to help local residents who are struggling.
We accept donations of gently used clothing, accessories, housewares, decorative items and more, and we no longer require drop-off appointments, unless the donation is large. Proceeds from these donations provide up to 40% of our funding, a critical source of support. Our Thrift Shop is also a valuable resource, allowing us to provide household goods for our food pantry guests who are unable to purchase what they need. We appreciate those in our community who continue to shop at and donate to our Thrift Shop.
Thank you for making our work possible!
