Letter: POW/MIA flag should fly every day

Posted

As an American veteran, I became aware that the federal government is only required to fly the POW/MIA flag six days per year. This was established by Title 36 of the USC, Section 902.

In my opinion, this flag should fly each day the American flag is flown; especially at all U.S. Postal facilities. I have been embattled with the U.S. Postal Service, asking them to fly it each day, and they have refused tp address this change.

I also have contacted our Rhode Island senators and congressmen asking for an amendment to this law, and they too have been less cooperative.  The creators of this flag (National league of POW/MIA Families) also agree this flag should fly from all government facilities daily while the American flag is displayed. This flag was created to remember all the veterans that gave their lives to this county and for the many that remain missing and not forgotten.

I am asking that anyone that might agree with this, please write to Reed/Whitehouse/Cicilline’s offices and express your opinions. I am one person banging a drum that is falling short to our elected officials’ ears. The more drums that get banging maybe will wake up our elected officials and make this change.
