Letter: Low Lane house has no connection to the Lows

Posted

I am writing in response to the recent article, “A home like no other” (Bristol Phoenix, Oct. 10). Readers may have been confused, and a little clarification might be useful.

The reporter and architect Scott Hughes proclaim this structure to be the New Low House. Based on the story, one could be misled into thinking that the Low family had something to do with this project. That is not the case.

Lows still live in the neighborhood, myself included, and we subscribe to your paper. Imagine our surprise to learn the ongoing construction next door was being linked to us, despite the fact that we are in no way associated with the new build.

For some reason, this was not verified nor made clear in your paper. And while the reporter and the Phoenix are careful to respect the owner’s privacy by not divulging their names, they gave no such courtesy to us.

We wish the owners all the happiness in their new home but would ask that they, and their architect, not associate it with our family name. Comparisons between this project and the original Low House are far-fetched at best. If they’re proud of the house, surely they’d want to use their own names.
