In his letter to the editor of this newspaper (“Due diligence and a dedicated public servant,” Jan. 14), Mike Byrnes made some strongly worded, politically motivated allegations against Town Councilman Tim Sweeney. I wonder why the political attack by Mr. Byrnes against Mr. Sweeney?
Let’s exam the issue without a political lens. Louis Cirillo did a very good job for Bristol as our Town Clerk, is entitled to his severance, and, to my knowledge, Mr. Sweeney has no issue with Mr. Cirillo, either personally, professionally or politically, despite what Mr. Byrnes alleges.
Mr. Sweeney’s query was, in my opinion, simply attempting to permit the public to have visibility into the severance process for town officials. As taxpayers, we have a right to have full transparency into how our hard-earned tax dollars are spent.
Mr. Sweeney’s pursuit of transparency is born out of his deep-rooted desire to ensure that Bristol does not become a town with a “smoke-filled room” reputation. Let’s let Mr. Sweeney do the work that we elected him to do.
