I am writing in response to letter by Steve Annarummo, “Support for Antifa and BLM should be questioned.” I agree with his assertion that many recent so-called

‘peaceful  protests are directed at changing our American way of life.”

Now there is a suggestion by Robert Hancock before the Bristol Town Council to create a Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Is this intended to “assist or advise” our council members in crafting policy for our community?

When we elect members to the council, we are trusting them to insure that our town functions well; maintains peace, order, and safety; and retains the charm and beauty Bristolians so treasure and wish to retain. Nor do we welcome discord or interference in our community.

I do not favor the imposition of an unelected body pushing their own agenda as they try to influence the decisions of our council. Observing such movements in other towns and cities indicates that their tactics tend to sow division and open conflict rather than encourage harmony and unity.

A town council should retain and exercise its independence and the responsibility we place in them — free of undue influence by any unelected group.
