Letter: A tribute to Guiteras School
Reading the article in the Bristol Phoenix about the closing of Guiteras School immediately brought back the early memories where my 45 years of teaching secondary-school mathematics began in 1963 at Guiteras School, before continuing at Mt. Hope High, Middletown High, and finally at Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro.
My hat is tipped to that great building called Guiteras and all the teachers I had who impacted my life, sparking the passion to love mathematics, namely Alice Barlow, Anthony Iasiello, Frank Campagna and at Colt Memorial School, Michael Securo.
If only those walls could talk. I hope I made them proud as my career unfolded. As Nicky Piper, chairwoman of the school committee said, “it closes with a little sadness.”
