Dr. Jonathan Brice, a long-time educator and former Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education, has been named Interim Superintendent of the Bristol Warren Regional School District. He replaces Dr. Mario Andrade, who resigned last month.
Dr. Brice was appointed by the school committee Monday evening and will begin working on Monday, July 22. Concurrently, school committee members will begin the search for a permanent superintendent.
Dr. Brice has more than 26 years of experience as a teacher, school administrator and executive in five large school districts in Maryland, Florida and Delaware. He was a founding director of a non-profit organization focused on improving opportunities for upward mobility for children, and through his roles in education he has worked in alternative education, public information, research and assessment, special education, student services, supporting and evaluating school principals, and technology. Additionally, Dr. Brice has been an education consultant for various school districts and organizations, including the Southern Poverty Law Center, and in February 2018 the New Rochelle, N.Y. Board of Education selected him as chairman of the Task Force on Reducing Violence in the Lives of Children and Youth.
“I am humbled by the opportunity," he said in a statement. "My initial focus will be on listening and learning about the (district), and collaborating and identifying measurable outcomes for the 2019-2020 school year.”
The school committee will introduce Dr. Brice to the Bristol Warren community at its regular meeting Monday, July 22, and will host a meet and greet from 6 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
