The Mt. Hope High School boys' swim team recently completed its best regular season in nearly two decades after the Huskies went undefeated to finish atop the 2024-25 Division III dual meet standings.

The locals ended their slate with a 5-0 record following their 66-15 victory over the Pilgrim/Toll Gate co-op at the McDermott Pool in Warwick. The Blackstone Valley Mayoral Academy finished second to Mt. Hope in duals with a 3-1 record, its lone loss being a 67-22 defeat to the Huskies earlier in the winter.

Against the Warwick co-op to clinch first in duals, the Huskies won all 10 events held beginning with the 200 yard medley relay victory by Kieran Riedl, Ben Coles, Liam Gagner and Jackson Howland in 2 minutes, 10.63 seconds.

Mid-meet, the locals won the 200 freestyle relay as Gagner, Cohen Ferreira, Sam Coles and Finn Pansa clocked a 1:46.51. Mt. Hope then closed the meet with a winning time of 4:04.05 by Ben Coles, Sam Coles, Ferreira and Pansa in the 400 free relay.

Earlier, Sam Coles opened the solo swims with a time of 2:10.1 to win the 200 free. Ben Coles followed with a winning time of 2:32.64 in the 200 individual medley. In the 50 free, Pansa won in 23.34.

Ferreira followed with his winning time of 1:05.53 in the 100 butterfly. Gagner won the 100 free in 1:04.89. Later, Pansa added a win in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.58 and Sam Coles a victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.

This winter was Mt. Hope's best in dual meets since the '06-07 season when the Huskies finished first with a 9-1 record in what was then known as the Creed-South Division. For a time, the Interscholastic League recognized contributors to the sport by denoting regular season groupings under their names.

The Huskies will be seeking their first division meet crown of any kind since the program won its only two such titles in back-to-back seasons, '04-05 and '05-06, when the locals captured consecutive D-III crowns.

The Mt. Hope girls weren't far behind their male counterparts, finishing second with a 7-1 mark in the '24-25 D-III duals standings to undefeated East Providence. The Huskies' lone loss came to the Townies, 55-38, back in early January.

The Huskies also defeated the Warwick co-op, 61-31, in their duals finale. Olivia Taylor, Jessica Deal and Bridget Courtney were double solo winners for the locals.

Courtney opened the solo swims with her winning time of 2:29.15 in the 200 free. She also closed the individual events with a time of 1:27.68 to claim the 100 breast.

In between, Taylor won the 200 IM in 2:31.93 and the 100 fly in 1:14.94.

Deal won at the extremes, taking the 50 free in 28.4 then the 500 free in 6:08.11.

The same trio was joined by Emma Quigley in winning the meet opening 200 medley relay with a time of 2:18.33.

Courtney, Summer Komiega, Vivian Goodman and Hazel Bradley won the mid-meet 200 free relay in 2:12.47.

Taylor, Deal, Quigley and Bradley finally closed the meet with their winning time of 4:19.46 in the 400 free relay.

Both MHHS sides have been spending recent days prepping for their respective Division III championship meets, each taking place at the aquatics center on the Roger Williams University campus in Bristol.

The girls swim Friday night, Feb. 14, at 5 p.m. The boys participate in a combined meet with Division II on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 1:30 p.m.
